About RV Boat Guide

Helping you make sense of RVs, boats, and the adventures that come with them.

Buying an RV or boat should be exciting.

But if you’ve ever started researching one, you probably know how quickly that excitement can turn into information overload.

There are countless manufacturers, models, floorplans, lengths, weights, engines, features, options, and opinions to sort through. Add questions about towing, storage, insurance, maintenance, financing, and ownership costs, and it can be difficult to know where to begin.

That’s why I created RV Boat Guide.

My goal is simple: to make RV and boat shopping easier to understand so you can make a more informed decision about what actually fits your family and the way you want to spend your time outdoors.

Start With How You Want to Use It

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when shopping for an RV or boat is starting with a particular brand or model before understanding what you actually need.

I believe the better place to start is with you.

Who is coming with you?

Where do you want to go?

What do you want to do when you get there?

What are you comfortable towing?

What features will genuinely improve your experience?

And just as importantly; what don't you need?

RV Boat Guide is built around helping you answer those questions first.

Once you understand your needs, comparing all those manufacturers, models and features becomes a whole lot easier.

Practical Information for Real Buyers

RV Boat Guide is designed for everyday people; not industry insiders.

You don't need to know the difference between GVWR and UVW before you get here. You don't need to understand every type of RV or know whether you need a pontoon, bowrider or wake boat.

That's what the Guide is for.

Here you'll find straightforward articles, buyer's guides, checklists, comparisons, videos and other resources covering topics such as:

  • Choosing the right RV or boat
  • Understanding different RV and boat types
  • Towing and weight considerations
  • Floorplans, layouts and features
  • First-time ownership
  • Shopping and buying tips
  • Maintenance and ownership basics
  • Camping, boating and the outdoor lifestyle

My goal isn't to make things more complicated than they need to be.

It's to give you enough information to ask better questions and make a decision with confidence.

Meet Si

I'm Si Xiong, founder of RV Boat Guide and an RV & Boat Outfitter at Bretz RV & Marine in Liberty Lake, Washington.

More importantly, I'm a follower of Jesus, a husband, father of five and fellow outdoor enthusiast who understands why these purchases matter.

For most families, an RV or boat isn't simply another thing sitting in the driveway.

It's Saturday mornings at the lake.

It's camping trips with the kids.

It's fishing before sunrise, tubing until everyone is exhausted, campfires after dark, road trips, family vacations and places you might never have experienced otherwise.

Those are the things that drew me to this industry.

I work directly with RV and boat buyers throughout the Pacific Northwest, helping people understand their options and find something that genuinely fits how they plan to use it.

But RV Boat Guide was created to be bigger than any one dealership, manufacturer or salesperson.

Whether you eventually work with me personally or simply use something you learned here to make a better decision somewhere else, I want this site to be useful to you.

Education Before the Sale

I believe a good buying experience starts with education; not pressure.

There isn't one RV that's right for everybody.

There isn't one boat that's right for everybody either.

Sometimes the right recommendation may even be different from the one you originally thought you wanted.

That's okay.

I'd rather help someone understand the tradeoffs between their options than simply tell them which one they should buy.

That's why you'll see RV Boat Guide talk about both the advantages and the compromises that come with different types of RVs, boats, layouts and features.

The goal isn't to convince you to buy more.

It's to help you buy better.

Independent by Design

RV Boat Guide is an independent educational brand.

I currently work professionally in RV and boat sales, which gives me the opportunity to spend time around these products, talk with buyers and continue learning about the industry firsthand.

That experience naturally informs some of what you'll find here.

At the same time, RV Boat Guide is not intended to be an advertisement for one manufacturer, brand or dealership.

When a product, business relationship, compensation, special access or other connection is relevant to something I publish, I WILL ALWAYS DISCLOSE IT.

You deserve to know the context behind the information you're reading.

Built for Beginners. Useful Beyond Your First Purchase.

If you're completely new to RVing or boating, you're in the right place.

A large part of RV Boat Guide is intentionally designed to answer the questions people sometimes feel like they're supposed to already know.

There's no such thing as a dumb question here.

But the Guide isn't only for first-time buyers.

As it grows, you'll find resources for current owners, people considering their next RV or boat, families exploring different ways to enjoy the outdoors, and anyone who simply wants to understand these products a little better.

More Than the Purchase

Choosing the right RV or boat is only the beginning.

The real reason to own one is what you get to do with it.

My hope is that RV Boat Guide eventually becomes a resource not just for choosing an RV or boat, but for getting more out of owning one; where to go, what to bring, what to know and how to make the experience easier for your family.

Because ultimately, this isn't really about RVs and boats.

It's about where they can take you and the memories you make when you get there.

Have a Question?

If you're researching your first RV or boat, comparing a few options or simply have a question you haven't been able to find a good answer to, I'd be happy to hear from you.

Visit my Go With Si page to get in touch.

Tell me a little about what you're looking for, how you plan to use it and what questions you're trying to answer.

You don't need to have a particular brand or model picked out.

Sometimes figuring out where to start is exactly what I can help with.

God Bless!
